Ingredients

For the Ramen:

  • 2 packs of instant ramen noodles preferably Korean-style
  • 2 cups water

For the Buldak Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp gochujang Korean red chili paste
  • 1 tbsp gochugaru Korean red pepper flakes
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ tsp ginger grated
  • ½ cup chicken broth or water

Optional Add-ins & Toppings:

  • ½ cup cooked chicken grilled or stir-fried or tofu
  • 1 tbsp butter for creamier texture
  • 1 soft-boiled egg halved
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 green onion chopped
  • 1 sheet of nori seaweed, cut into strips
  • ½ cup shredded cheese for a cheesy version

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Ramen Noodles

  • Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a pot.
  • Add the ramen noodles and cook according to package instructions (around 3-4 minutes) until they are al dente.
  • Drain the noodles, reserving ¼ cup of the cooking water for the sauce. Set aside.

Step 2: Prepare the Spicy Buldak Sauce

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, add sesame oil and sauté the garlic and ginger until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
  • Add the gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, honey, and chicken broth. Stir well.
  • Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.

Step 3: Combine the Sauce and Noodles

  • Add the drained noodles back into the pot. Pour the spicy sauce over the noodles.
  • Stir well over low heat, ensuring every strand is coated with the fiery sauce. If needed, add a bit of reserved noodle water for a silkier texture.

Step 4: Serve and Garnish

  • Transfer the spicy Buldak Ramen to a serving bowl.
  • Top with sesame seeds, chopped green onions, nori strips, and a soft-boiled egg.
  • If you prefer a cheesy twist, sprinkle shredded cheese on top and let it melt slightly.
