For the Dough:
- 3 cups 375g all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 ¼ cups warm water 110°F/45°C
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Flavor Additions:
- 1 cup vegan shredded cheese cheddar-style works best
- 2 small jalapeños finely chopped (remove seeds for less heat)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder optional
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika optional
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast.
Pour in warm water and olive oil, then mix until a rough dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Step 4: Shape & Second Rise
Once risen, punch down the dough and shape it into a round loaf.
Place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet or into a lightly greased Dutch oven.
Cover loosely and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
Step 5: Bake the Bread
Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). If using a Dutch oven, place it inside while preheating.
If desired, score the top of the dough with a sharp knife for better expansion.
Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and crusty.
Let the bread cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
